Be Wise…and Subitize!!!
What Does Subitizing Have to Do with Development of Students’ Understanding of Number Sense? Subitizing is an under-realized, critical skill needed for number sense such as conservation, unitizing, composing/decomposing, place value, fact strategies, and arithmetic. Understanding these learning trajectories across TK-6/8 help educators diagnose student understanding and answer questions about what students need to learn within their developmental path. In this session, Toni will discuss subitizing types, when and how they can be taught, implications on TK-8 mathematics learning and provide tasks for small or whole group instruction.

Who's Asking the Questions in Math Class? Using Curiosity as a Catalyst for Changing Curricula and Classrooms
Even though we want students to be curious in math, see its beauty, and wonder how it applies to their world, most students believe math class is a place where they're just given answers to questions they've never asked. Math leaders and teachers can change this belief by cultivating curiosity in math courses and classrooms. Learn strategies for inspiring students to ask their own questions, self-assess their curiosity, and value questions as much as answers.

Accessibility Rocks: Design Tips, Tricks, & Tools in Google
Our learners’ brains are as unique as their fingertips-as are their needs. As more districts leverage Google tools and author their own instructional materials, it is critical that materials are universally designed and flexible to support learners' needs. This session explores how to design accessible from the start, how to leverage built-in assistive features in popular 1:1 computing devices, and how to further the accessibility of instructional materials using free extensions, add-ons, and other design strategies. We’ll also check out AI tools that boost accessibility! By the end of the interactive session, attendees will understand the importance of designing accessible from the onset, will develop skills to provide flexible learning options in the learning environment, will have specific tools within Google (assistive technology and accessible educational material tools), will practice applying the tools to their materials, and will develop plans for future implementation. Emerge from the session as an accessibility all-star!

The One Where They Talk About Student Choice
Student choice will be there for you - as a powerful tool for enhanced student engagement. One of the most important steps in creating expert learners who are willing to persevere through challenges is to facilitate learning experiences that put students in the driver’s seat by providing choice in their learning. Not sure where to start? We’ll discuss different ways teachers can provide choices to students, share ideas to get started, and begin to implement this change to our practice.

Turn Chaos into Clarity
Do you feel like you are running through your days, being pulled in a ton of different directions, feeling overwhelmed by the time the first bell rings to start the day? As teachers we assume many roles while wearing our “teacher hat”, which can contribute to the stress that teachers feel on a daily basis, leaving you feeling overworked and burnt out!

Craft your vision, gain clarity, find joy and be more in control of your life.

Your life consists of more than teaching. Creating a vision for your whole life will help to identify where you want to spend your time, creating more balance and happiness in your life. When we become more intentional with our time and where we choose to spend our time, we feel more in control of our lives.

I will help my audience develop a plan to take back to school, planning and being intentional about their time teaching. We often encourage teachers to be mindful of the whole child while teaching. We are taking that a step further and looking at the whole teacher and how we can best support our tirelessly hard working teachers who are stretched in every direction, every day.

Culturally Responsive Leadership: Strategies, protocols, and actions for building a culture of leadership and empowerment
One of the most significant indicators of a learner's success that cannot be measured numerically is the culture of the environments they are learning in. The goal should be to ensure that every learner is seen, heard, and affirmed in who they are. This session will support educators across the wide spectrum of roles, including school and district leadership, in developing sustainable mechanisms for examining habits of mind and cultural norms while examining areas of need for growth as well. We will also take a deep analytical look at how our use of technology must go beyond simplistic uses and evolve to serve as a catalyst for learner empowerment in making and building meaningful cross-cultural connections.

Classroom Management Tricks And Tips/Restorative Justice
Using Brian Mendler's strategies from a professional development I attended in Columbus, Ohio, I want to give some classroom tips and tricks that I have used over my last seven years of teaching. I want to highlight strategies that have worked, failed, and give teachers time to submit common issues they are experiencing in their classroom and brainstorm ideas that can help change the course of their classroom dynamics. My session would focus on the following:

-Ethics vs. Rules
-Private vs. Public
-Common classroom issues.

Fostering the Reader in All: Tips, Tools, and Strategies
As we go through school, we learn to read, and then we read to learn. All of us need to be readers-but sometimes, we may need different resources, supports, and tools to be successful readers. In this session, we will explore tools, resources, and strategies to bring out the reader in all of our students using accessible design, assistive technology, and principles of Universal Design for Learning. In the US, there are 6.7 million K-12 children with disabilities receiving special education services. Specific Learning Disabilities (SLDs) make up half of special education students, and 85% of the students with specific learning disabilities have a primary learning disability in reading and language processing. Given the likelihood that many of our students fall into these statistics, what are we doing to ensure all have an accessible, equitable, engaging learning experience? This fast-paced beginner session will explore the “why” and attendees will leave with immediate implementation of free/low cost simple tools for Chrome, Windows, and iPads to turn classroom worksheets, documents into accessible formats/instruction for independent student access. By the end of the session, attendees will emerge confident with facts to bust assistive technology myths and equipped with tools to support variability in reading and writing.

Transformational Teaching and Learning With Technology
In our quest to provide students with rich learning environments, we often strive to find creative ways to engage our students further. In some cases, this may involve the use of technology to a variety of degrees. Since technology has a ubiquitous influence on the everyday lives of our students, one of our biggest challenges is identifying ways to leverage it for increased student learning. This session will focus both on the design of learning experiences as well as how to shift our use of technology to support a higher-order thinking approach to learning.
